Argolis & Olympia

Tour duration: 2 days 1 night

Day 1:

The first destination will be the Corinth Canal where you will stop for a while to enjoy the stunning view of the ships that pass just below your feet. Then, you will visit the ancient city of Corinth where Saint Paul lived and preached for two years. We continue to Mycenae to visit the archaeological site that includes the Acropolis of Mycenae with the huge fortification walls, the Lions Gate and the famous tomb of Agamemnon and the tomb of Atreus. Then you will head to Nafplio, which was the first capital of Greece in the 19th century. The picturesque seaside town with its historic center and Palamidi at the top of the hill is also a popular destination for Greeks.

After lunch, you will visit Epidaurus and the ancient theater, famous for its excellent acoustics. The theater, built in the 4th century BC, is one of the best preserved theaters in Greece and is still used today as it hosts the Epidaurus Festival every summer. Right next to the theater you can visit Asclepeion, which was the most famous healing center of the Classical world, the place where the sick went in the hope of being healed by the god of medicine, Asklepios.

Later in the afternoon, the driver will take you to Olympia. The rest of the day will be free so you can relax or go shopping. You will spend the night in the city of ancient Olympia.

Day 2:

In the morning, you will visit the city of ancient Olympia which was the birthplace of the Olympic Games held in 776 BC. This city was the center of attention in ancient times and is still today the starting point of the Olympic Flame that is lit there once every four years before the new Olympic Games. You will visit the archeological site, one of the easiest sites to go through as it has enough levels to cross, having plenty of shade under the trees. There, you will see the ancient stadium of the Olympic Games and the temple of Zeus, among many other structures and archaeological ruins. In addition, you will visit the Archaeological Museum as well as the Museum of the Olympic Games that present impressive collections of ancient Greek objects and objects related to the ancient and the modern Games.

After lunch we will leave for Athens. The journey is about 4.5 hours.
