Drive along the beautiful coastal road of the Saronic Gulf through Glyfada, Vouligmeni, and Fokea...
In Cape Sounion you will visit The Temple of Poseidon [5th century B.C.] the home of Poseidon, the God of the Sea, with one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world- the Cape with a vertical drop of 70 meters where the rocks meet the crystal clear waters of the Gulf.
We depart from Athens for a short stop to Corinth Canal to walk across the old bridge and look towards either end. The Corinth Canal is a structure of great importance, as before it was built, ships sailing between the Aegean and Adriatic Seas had to circumnavigate the Peloponnese, adding about 185 nautical miles to their journey. The original idea for making the canal was conceived by Periander the tyrant of Corinth back in 602 B.C. and the one that finally started the project in 1830 was Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of Greece. This was after the liberation from the Ottoman Turks, and finished in 1893 after several stops and restarts.
